Jan Liefhebber has been an element of the Dutch techno scene since the early 90’s. In 1995 he set up the record label Highland Beats to provide a platform for the acid and techno that he played in his DJ sets. Highland Beats went on to become a succesfull techno labels in the 90’s and it provided a springboard for upcoming artists. One of the first of its kind in the Netherlands, Highland Beats has inspired labels and artists over the years.
Jan’s DJ career started off in the underground techno scene. Together with some friends he organised parties in crazy industrial locations like old abandoned farm houses, fields, tunnels and warehouses.
Jan’s musical taste differed from what most people were playing and he soon made a name for himself due to his diversity and refreshing sets. The popularity of Highland Beats fuelled his success and his first international bookings soon followed. In 2003 Jan released his first co-production. This led to several remix requests and he has since (co-)produced on different labels. The main reason Jan has remained a sought after DJ is that he doesn’t let any trend dictate what he plays while still evolving and progressing.
After 40 releases on Highland Beats and several releases on sub labels HBLTD, Body: Art: Form and Klirfactor Jan decided to start up a new, fresh project to reflect the sound he is playing at the moment. 2008 saw the launch of Eterno Records, a joint project with partner Jenny Rose.
If you ask Raphael Dincsoy about his life and his passion, he will tell you in just a few words: "My Life is Nightlife" Very simple but true. Nearly every day in "Rapha`s” life turns around music and its business. During the week he works as a booker and artist manager for the "Club Lehmann" and the agency "Agentur Lehmann".
The weekends he spent as a Resident DJ at the Lehmann Club or in clubs and festivals all around Germany and Europe. If he does not play, he loves to party and he likes the excess...
"A weekend without a rave is no weekend - If i wake up on a Monday and feel fresh, it really feels strange in a way... Not sure if that is good or bad.... But it is true"
Raphael sees DJing as an entertainment. He loves it and that is what he transports directly to the crowd. His sets are very versatile and he is very much open minded to different genres of music.
"At the end it is all about techno, but I like groovy and deep stuff and also rough and hard tunes... It just needs balls!"
No question, he is definitively more a DJ than a producer.
"I love spending time in the studio and working on tracks, I have many ideas and inspiration - but sometimes I am a lazy stoner and I am super slow with coming to an end". "That is why I am happy to the have the right partners around me."
So happened releases with guys like Niereich, Pierre Deutschmann or Chris Hirose on quality labels like Sleaze Records, Kombination Research, H-Productions, Micro.Fon, MB Elektronics to name a few. "I learned a lot during the studio sessions and I am happy that I am now working more and more on my own stuff - just finished some fresh and new stuff and looking for labels to release"
"Also I nearly do not listen to Techno private - Rap and Hip Hop gives me much more inspiration and keeps my mind fresh."
Apart from all that, Raphael is very thankful for the opportunity to do what he does and he mostly takes it very serious. He is a very contemplative and emotional person who needs its people around and his background.
"My friends and my surrounding giving me much energy and giving me the feeling that they believe in me and what I do... This is something I really appreciate." "I really hope I am able to do what I do for a long time..."
It's true that Anna Reusch does not fit the stereotypical cliche of what it takes to be a serious act on the Techno music scene – she's young, blonde, a model – basta! However what THEY don't know is that at just 14 Anna was using the stereo in her father's rehearsal room so she could listen to her particular style of music. Having tried and failed to play guitar, drums and piano Anna thought she would just have to settle for listening to music, but at 16 she met a DJ who luckily spotted her talent and technique for recognising the beat and At 17 the newcomer was performing as support act on the "Hartegrad Clubnacht" and it didn't take long before she signed her first recording deal. However, at 18 whilst still at school but also touring throughout Germany Anna decided to throw in the towel as it was all getting a bit too much. Another 3 years passed before she could properly interpret the feeling of itchy fingers which she had been experiencing once in a while, especially when she was out clubbing.
At the end of 2008 Anna decided that she would now concentrate on music and she started to learn. The proper teachers, e.g. George Perry and Peter Latino, who were milestones in the Frankfurt music scene, pointed her in the right direction and opened doors to a previously unknown world : the Techhouse/Techno scene. Driving beats and dramatic arrangements aroused her euphoric listeners and really left an impression. Gig after gig she was able to refine her technique and track by track her style emerged for phatt basslines mixed with dry but grooving melodic beats. She succeeds in her goal to get the crowd to "come with me on a trip of pumpin' electronic music".
During 2009 Anna Reusch was able to play a number of great clubs giving her a very respectable list of references, amongst which were U60311 in Frankfurt, Loft in Ludwigshafen, Elektrokuche in Cologne, Club Q in Zurich and Festivals such as Summerwave and Nature One. She surprises her listeners with passion, technique and flair. Prejudices are now passe. Her first music productions are in the making – something to look forward to!
Kalden Bess started off his career in 2008 when he began making music from his basement in montreal, a few months later, His first release hit the shelf and went on TOP10 on the first week.
Recognition came fast for the young producer who then got the chance to play alongside the likes of Chris Liebing, Richie Hawtin, Sasha, Gary Beck, Dustin Zahn, and many more techno titans.
At the start of 2009, Kalden launched the Ground Factory label to promote his music. By doing so, he quickly made a name for himself with his quality brand of techno.
Hard work and dedication has ensured that Ground Factory Records is now running alongside the best techno labels.
His quality work and special touch he calls 'dirty sexy' techno gave him the chance to work with many established producer and labels such as Secret Cinema, Gary Beck, Sasha Carassi, Markantonio, Rino Ceronne, Audio Injection, Drumcell, Tom Hades, Pig & Dan, Jerome Sydenham, Pfirter and many more.
Since 2013, Kalden left Montreal for Barcelona where he dedicate himself to making music and making people dance all over the world.
Currently working on his debut album, 'kalden' is ready to set his new touch of techno around the globe.
Work-sharing is not uncommon with Techno duos. On the contrary, it is the rule rather than the exception. On the Techno scene this is only natural. One of the counterparts, with the right training, focuses on the professional record production output, while the extroverted one faces the raised fists of cheering fans on weekends and tries to relax with some quiet time on weekdays. Arnd Reichow, part of the duo Drumcomplex, has been an example of the second type all his life. Daniel, who holds a degree in sound engineering and who is also Arnd‘s brother, is an important support privately as well as professionally. There could hardly be a better way to complement one another.
Who has not at some point asked the question „How complex can Techno be?“ As far as Drumcomplex is concerned, the answer must be: Techno can reach a degree of complexity that gets the utmost out of studio work and live performances through a perfect division of work and has been doing so for the past ten years and more. This is also reflected in the discography: These two co- ver a range of prestigious Techno and TechHouse labels that would have others drooling: MB Elektronics, Phobiq, Different is Different Records, Toolroom Records, Railyard Recordings, Resopal Schallware, Definition Records, SK Supreme Records, Techno League Rec, K:lender.
Firing on all cylinders, and an emphatically recommended sound system since 2003 is the upshot of all the hard work in the studio which has earned the label mass movement phenomenon over many years.
And what about out there, in front of the crowds? This will raise a smile on the face of anyone who has ever seen Arnd perform in front of a crowd. And why? Because one might well ask the question how, after 20 years of DJing, someone can be so light-hearted and level-headed in their approach at the same time. Maybe it is just that magical spark from the first hour of Techno‘s unspoiled core that flares up at each of his sets, and always illumines the crowd a little bit as well. All that acting up around the DJ booth is certainly not for him. Arnd is the DJ who does not disappear backstage to sip champagne when he is done; he is the fan who celebrates the records of the next act together with the rest of the crowd. It is this open and honest style that brings this „Drumcomplex“ to people in such a simple manner, so that no one in the crowd is able to resist its almost childlike charisma. A spark of harmony that would be nice to see more frequently on the scene again.
